The Sixth China Nature Education Forum of China Nature Education Congress

Wuhan Consensus

From November 2 to 3, 2019, China Nature Education Congress (The Sixth China Nature Education Forum), cosponsored by Chinese Society of Forestry, Alibaba Foundation, China Nature Education Network and Hubei Provincial Forestry Bureau, was held in Wuhan. More than 1,000 representatives, experts and scholars from government departments, enterprises and public institutions, social organizations, public welfare organizations, international organizations, nature education institutions, nature protected area management agencies, urban parks and news media, exchanged experience, studied related issues and discussed promoting the healthy development of nature education around the theme of "promoting Nature Education and building ecological civilization". The Congress held that, with the joint efforts of all sectors of society, China's nature education has entered a period of rapid development, but still faces many challenges. The representatives present at the Congress had in-depth exchanges and discussions on how to promote the healthy and orderly development of nature education, improve the quality of nature education, and realize the participation by all people, and reached the following consensus:

First, China's nature education must take ecological civilization thought of Xi Jinping as the fundamental guidance, firmly establish the ecological and historical concept that "the rise or fall of a civilization is closely tied to its relationship with nature", advocate the environmentally-friendly concept that "environment is my teacher, and I am a friend of nature", insist that man and nature are communities of life, and pursue the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.

Second, the fundamental purpose of nature education is to promote the whole society to form the values of respecting nature, conforming to nature and protecting nature, and constantly enhance the people's awareness and ability to protect nature.

Third, nature education is aimed at the masses, especially teenagers. It is necessary to strengthen practical education and guide them to walk into nature, experience nature and understand nature.

Fourth, it is necessary to keep in mind the original mission of nature education, adhere to the public benefit of the industry, strengthen the industry self-regulation, and consolidate the social foundation for the long-term development of the industry.

Fifth, it is necessary to establish and improve the relevant standards, guidelines and norms of natural education, form a complete standard system, and constantly promote the standardized and orderly development of natural education.

Sixth, it is necessary to speed up the construction of talent training system in China's nature education industry, and build high-quality talent team on the basis of standardization to meet the needs of industry development.

Seventh, it is necessary to give full play to the social education functions of various nature protected areas, urban parks and country parks, and combine their own advantages and characteristics, design high-quality activity courses, compile activity textbooks, improve the quality of natural education activities and create excellent activities.

Eighth, it is necessary to pay attention to the theoretical research on the industry development goals, core strategies, functional orientation and key work areas, and form a theoretical system of natural education with Chinese characteristics to guide the practice of natural education.

Ninth, it is necessary to speed up the construction of an open comprehensive information platform for natural education and promote the resource information sharing of the industry. It is necessary to raise activity funds through various forms such as government support, donation from public welfare organizations, sponsorship from enterprises and public institutions, and self financing by institutions, so as to form a development pattern of extensive participation from all sectors of society and win-win cooperation.

Tenth, the development of nature education cannot do without the support and help of relevant government departments. The relevant government departments should strengthen industry guidance and provide necessary policy and financial support to ensure the development of nature education.

Based on the above consensus, we will take protecting nature, leading and serving the development of China's nature education as our own responsibility, solidly promote the healthy and sustainable development of nature education with Chinese characteristics, help China's construction of ecological civilization and beautiful China, and make new and greater contributions to the realization of the "Chinese dream" (bringing about a great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation).
