I. Work Overview

2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Chinese Society of Forestry (CSF), and we have made plentiful achievements in this delightful year.

At the 100th anniversary, we successfully held commemorative activities to celebrate and greatly exhilarated scientific and technical workers of forestry; We have made progress in innovation-driven projects, and received approval from then Vice President Li Yuanchao on our work of Ningbo Service Station, improving our scientific innovation capacity in service sectors; We have played effective role in decision making consultation: our journal Recommendations from Forestry Experts received approval from Zhang Jianlong, Director General of the State Forestry Administration, four times, and was awarded the medal of excellence by the Ninth Conference of China Association for Science and Technology (NCCAST) among other inspection projects; We completed the task of inspecting the work of improving science and technology to support targeted poverty alleviation in a way of third-party evaluation for the first time; We were awarded the medal of “The Advanced Collectives of National Science Popularization”; Our major journal Scientia Silvae Sinicae rose to the 7th on the ranking of national core science and technology journals, and was honored “100 Outstanding Academic Journals of China” for 15 times; “Strengthening CSF with Party Building” was voted Top 10 Learning Brand of the State Forestry Administration. Our working environment was greatly improved and our capacity was deeply enhanced.

Ⅸ. Major events

January 1, 2017 An expert group led by Academician Yin Weilun at invitation went to Hebei Agricultural University to evaluate the “Genomic Sequencing of Jujubes and Applications” project completed by Professor Liu Mengjun’s team. It is the first time for CSF to make social scientific evaluation after the reform of national science and technology evaluation system.

January 8, 2017 Proposals on Natural Forest Conservation with Classification at Different Levels, the 14th issue of Recommendations from Forestry Experts, received approval from from Zhang Jianlong, Director General of the State Forestry Administration

January 10, 2017 Vice Secretary General Liu Hesheng hosted 2016-2018 Reviewing Meeting of the Applicants of Young Talent Supporting Project in Beijing. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF attended the meeting and delivered a speech. 9 experts from relative departments of Chinese Academy of Forestry attended the meeting.

January 11, 2017 CSF organized all its staff to pledge allegiance to Constitution for the first time, and 5 carders of division level assumed in 2016 pledged in the face of national flag and national emblem. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF supervised the pledge and delivered a speech, and Vice Secretary General Liu Hesheng hosted the pledge.

January 20, 2017 CSF held Non-timber Forest-based Economy Innovation Teams’ Meeting and the Kickoff Meeting of Business Innovation Team on Oak in Beijing. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, chaired the meeting.

February 6, 2017 Mangrove Forest Diary, popularization of forestry knowledge of CSF, was recorded by CCTV children’s channel and broadcast on Beginner Penjing on CCTV-14.

February 19, 2017 Candidates for 2017 Academician Review Meeting of Chinese Society of Forestry was held in Beijing. Professor Zhang Qixiang and Professor Lin Jinxing were selected as candidates for academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering by secret ballot.

February 20, 2017 CSF held the General Council meeting in Beijing. Zhao Shucong, Preseident of CSF hosted the meeting. The meeting reviewed and approved 2016 Work and 2017 Key Priorities and Proposed Candidates List for Functional Party Committee from the Council of Chinese Society of Forestry. It also heard a report on the centenary celebration plan and preparation work. The meeting discussed and approved issues of the establishment of a new branch and its change of legal person. Chen Xinliang Secretary General of CSF, Liu Hesheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, and other 40 standing councils attended the meeting.

February 22, 2017 CSF held review meeting for the Sixth Outstanding Talents Awards of Liang Xi in Beijing, and selected 49 outstanding talents. Cai Yansong, former Vice Director of the State Forestry Administration and the Honorary Director of the review committee, attended the meeting. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, and head of the review meeting, presided over the meeting.

February 22, 2017 CSF held expert meeting in Beijing, to discuss Trail Measures for CSF Administration of Science and Technology Evaluation and Trail Measures for CSF Administration of Corporate Standards.

February 24, 2017 CSF held Secretary Generals’ meeting of Chinese Society of Forestry in Chongqing. The meeting reviewed 2016, planed 2017, arranged work about centenary celebration, academic conference, disciplinary development, exchanged work experience and recognized advanced units.

March 1, 2017 “Strengthening the Society with Party Building” of CSF was voted Top 10 Learning Brand of the State Forestry Administration.

March 1, 2017 CSF signed a contract with Rizhao Municipal People’s Government, Shandong Province, to jointly build modern forestry technology demonstration parks. Zhao Shucong, President of CSF, Peng Youdong, Vice Director of the State Forestry Administration, and Mayor of Qijiabin City attended the signing ceremony. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, and Xu Shuli signed the contract, and Liu Xingtai, Secretary of CPC Rizhao Municipal Committee met with leaders and guests presented at the meeting.

March 12, 2017 Development and service system for membership of CSF went on line. The system contains various functions such as online registration, payment, resources sharing, interaction, meeting management, finance management and democratic management.

March 15, 2017 CSF held Natural Oak Management and Development Symposium and the First Meeting of Chinese Society of Forestry Work Group of Oak in Rizhao, Shandong Province. The meeting discussed issues of building China Oak Park in terms of modern forestry technology of Chinese Society of Forestry.

March 28, 2017 CSF organized an expert panel with Academician Yin Weilun as its Panel Chief and Academician Tang Shouzheng as its Deputy Chief, went to Hebei Agricultural University to evaluate the “Omics Study of Paulownia Witches Broom and Applications” project completed by Professor Fan Guoqiang’s team at invitation.

April 1, 2017 CSF held “Centennial Forest” planting activity in BaiWangShan Forest Park. Zhang Jianlong, Director General of the State Forestry Administration, Zhao Shucong, President of Chinese Society of Forestry, Peng Youdong, Vice Director Genera of the State Forestry Administration, and Xia Zhanyi, Member of the Leading Party Members' Group of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality unveiled the memorial stone of Centennial Forest. Also joining the planting were Tan Guangming, Member of Party Leadership Group of the State Forestry Administration, Zhang Hongwen, Chief Economist of the State Forestry Administration, Ma Jianzhang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, key principals of departments of and departments directly under the State Forestry Administration, well-known forestry expert representatives, leaders of some forestry universities and colleges, principals from Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau, Chairman and Members of standing council from forestry society of provincial, regional and municipal level, President and Secretary General from branches of CSF in Beijing, bringing the total number of attendees to 100. During the planting, 100 white bark pines and 100 cornus walteris was planted. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, presided over the unveiling ceremony, Zhang Shougong, Vice President of CSF, Fei Benhua, Vice President of CSF, Li Dongsheng, Vice Cecretary General of CSF, Liu Hesheng,Vice Cecretary General of CSF, all the working staff, and representatives of retired workers attended the unveiling ceremony and planted trees.

April 13-14, 2017 China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Innovation Driven Supporting Projects Symposium was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Li Yuanchao, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice President, attended the opening ceremony and delivered an important speech. Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of CAST, and Tang Yijun, Member the Standing Committee of CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and Secretary of CPC Ningbo Municipal Committee, delivered speeches respectively. Shang Yong, Secretary of Party Leadership Group, Executive Vice Chairman, and first Secretary of the Secretariat of CAST presided over the opening ceremony. Yuan Jiajun, Deputy secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, Yue Chong, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, Xiang Changyue, Member of Party Leadership Group and Secretary of the Secretariat of China Association for Science and Technology, Song Jun, Member of Party Leadership Group and Academic Minister of CAST, and Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering including Li Deren, Gong Changde, Zheng Nanning, Wang Yuming, Yu Jianyong, Tan Shuseng attended the ceremony. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, the only representative of Chinese Society of Forestry, delivered a typical speech which was approved by Li Yuanchao at the meeting. After the meeting, more than 500 representatives went to Ningbo Zhonglin Bamboo Industry Research Institute to inspect Ningbo Service Station of CSF.

April 20-21, 2017 CSF and International Union for Conservation of Nature jointly held a conference on Lowering Risk of Natural Disaster with Ecology in Beijing. Li Dongsheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, attended and addressed the meeting.

May 6, 2017 CSF held the 100th anniversary of CSF at the Great Hall of the People. Wang Yang, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier, met with representatives of Awards of Liang Xi winners before the meeting. Luo Fuhe, Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy attended the meeting, Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Chairman of CAST and Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology of the People´s Republic of China sent congratulatory letters to the meeting. Zhang Jianlong, Secretary of Party Leadership Group and Director of the State Forestry Administration, delivered a written speech. Zhao Shucong, Vice Director of National Afforestation Committee and President of CSF, presided over the meeting. Before the meeting, CSF organized various activities to celebrate, including compiling A Hundred-year History of Chinese Society of Forestry, featuring film of One Hundred Years of Linzhong, making a thematic exhibition of One Hundred Years of Chinese Society of Forestry.

May 6, 2017 “2017 Large Public Service Activities of Forest China”, sponsored by CSF, was launched at the Great Hall of the People. Zhao Shucong, Vice Director of National Afforestation Committee and Chairman of CSF, Peng Youdong, Vice Director of The State Forestry Administration of the People's Republic of China, Fu Zhenbang, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, Chen Xinliang, Secretary General and Vice President of CSF, Zhang Biyong, Editorial Board Member of Guangming Daily Press attended this activity. Vice Secretary General Liu Hesheng announced winners of activities including “2016 Forest China: Searching for Hero of Ecological Protection” and “2016 Forest China: Discovering Town with Forest Culture”.

May 6-8, 2017 The Fifth China Forestry Academic Conference, sponsored by CSF, was held in Beijing Forestry University. Themed “One Hundred Years of Forestry, Lead by Innovation”, the meeting reviewed the development course of forestry in the past 100 years, and looked forward to the future of Chinese forestry. Zhao Shucong, Vice Director of National Afforestation Committee and Chairman of CSF, and Peng Youdong, Vice Director of the State Forestry Administration, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Altogether over 2600 people joined the meeting. Among them were academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering including Shen Guofang, Li Wenhua, Ma Jianzhang, Song Zhanqian, Yin Weilun, Cao Fuliang and Li Jian, academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences including Tang Shouzheng and Fu Bojie, principals from relative departments of and directly under the State Forestry Administration, principals from forestry universities and colleges, research institutions, as well as scientific and technical workers all over the country. The opening ceremony of the meeting was chaired by Chen Xinliang, Secretary General and Vice President of CSF.

May 12, 2017 Four experts from China Geological Survey and National Geological Library of China went to CSF to inspect science popularization work. Li Dongsheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF presided over the symposium of inspection.

May 25, 2017 CSF held 2016-2018 Young Talent Supporting Project Opening Ceremony and Symposium, in Changsha, Hunan Province. Zhao Shucong, Vice Director of National Afforestation Committee and President of CSF, attended the ceremony and awarded 5 applicants with selected certificate. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Liu Hesheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF presided over the ceremony.

May 25, 2017 National Science and Technology Workers Day Symposium for Members chaired by Vice Secretary Liu Hesheng, was held in Changsha, Hunan Province, to discuss issues on membership development and service.

May 26, 2017 CSF held review meeting for the Sixth Popularization of Forestry Science Awards of Liang Xi in Beijing to select 24 projects from 83 applying projects. The review committee consisted of 12 people including Professor Zhang Zhixiang from Beijing Forestry University. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF attended the meeting, and Li Dongsheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, presided over the meeting.

June 9, 2017 CSF held Awarding and Summary Meeting for Parallel Sessions of the Fifth China Forestry Academic Conference, in Beijing. The meeting awarded 15 units that organized parallel sessions including the one that organized S1 Forest Cultivation Session the title “Excellence Award”, 14 units including the one that organized S6 Utilization of Vine Resource the title “Organization Award”. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, presided over the meeting.

June 10, 2017 The 2017 International Union for Conservation of Nature Summer Sharing Conference of Chinese Members, sponsored by CSF International Union for Conservation, was held in Beijing. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Li Dongsheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF presided over the meeting.

June 13-15, 2017 The Fourth High-level China Non-timber Forest Based Economy Forum sponsored by CSF was held in Yueqing City, Zhejiang Province. At the opening ceremony, Zhao Shucong, President of CSF, made a keynote report on New Discovery of Forest Therapy and Forest Value, Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF chaired the ceremony and read the written speech of Academician Li.

June 18, 2017 CSF sent staff to Fujian Province to attend Signing and Awarding Ceremony of the 15th China Across-straight Technology and Projects Fair, and signed cooperative contract with Fujian Association for Science and Technology and the People’s Government of Zherong County to jointly build China Non-timber Forest Based Economy Innovation Base for Targeted Poverty Alleviation.

June 19-21, 2017 Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, lead experts to Chongqing to make a scientific expedition on natural Nanmu forest. The team first recognized that more than 960 mu of Nanmu forest were the largest secondary natural forest of Nanmu (also known as Zhennan) in size in China.

June 24-25, 2017 The Sixth Session of CAST Annual Meeting, The Construction of Ecological Civilization and Green Development Symposium, sponsored by CSF, was held in Changchun, Jilin Province. More than 150 people attended the meeting. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, attended the meeting and delivered a report. Before the opening ceremony of the session, Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF on behalf of CSF signed On Contract of Jointly Building CSF Jilin Service Station with Jilin Association for Science and Technology and Jilin Forestry Society.

June 30, 2017 CSF held a symposium for Guizhou Tianzhu non-timber forest based economy development in Beijing, and signed Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement on Developing Non-timber Forest Based Economy to Promote Poverty Alleviation with the People’s Government of Tianzhu County, Guizhou Province. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, attended the meeting.

July 1, 2017 CSF organized an expert group and dispatched it to Research Institute of Subtropical Forestry，Chinese Academy of Forestry to evaluate the “Research on System Construction and Capacity Improvement of Subtropical Muddy Coast Protection Forest” project completed by coast ecological engineering research team.

July 5-7 2017 The 2017 China (Shanghai) Bamboo Industry Exhibition & Bamboo Industry Development Symposium, jointly sponsored by CSF and International Center for Bamboo and Rattan, was held in Shanghai. Over 240 people attended the meeting and over 70 enterprises arranged more than 60 booths. At the exhibition, 40 products were awarded as products with high quality. Liu Hesheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

July 10-12, 2017 Liu Hesheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, organized experts from China forestry think tank and lead them to Jianning County, Fujian Province to made special inspection on ecology construction, forest quality improvement, forest tourism and non-timber forest-based economy, and signed Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement with the People’s Government of Jianning County.

July 11-16, 2017 CSF organized experts to go to Heilongjiang Province to inspect the work of targeted service for forestry scientific and technical workers at primary level. During the inspection, recommendation meeting for “the Most Important China Silviculturist Candidates” was held in Northeast Forestry University.

July 26-27, 2017 The 34th Youth Forestry Science Camp was started in Xiaolongshan Forestry Experimental Department, Gansu Province. Themed “Mountains, Rivers, Forests, Fields and Lakes Together Form a Biotic Community”, the camp was attended by nearly 100 teachers and students. Li Dongsheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. The activity attracted extensive attention and spread widely, with a total pageview of more than 500,000 of promotional articles in various media and a coverage of more than 1 million people.

July 26-27, 2017 China Natural Oak Management and Development Academic Symposium, jointly sponsored by CSF and China Nature Forest Protection Management Center, was held in Yuncheng, Shanxi Province. Over 140 people attended the meeting. Chen Xinliang, Vice President and Secretary General of CSF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Li Dongsheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, presided over the meeting.

July 28-29, 2017 “Chinese Medicine Source in Action” activity and 2017 Forest-based Chinese Medicine Development Symposium was jointly held by CSF and China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Kaili, Guizhou Province. More than 170 representatives from field of forest-based Chinese medicine cultivation, production, research and development, and processing of 23 provinces attended the meeting.

July 29-30, 2017 Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, lead a team to Tianzhu County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province to inspect the work of strengthening poverty alleviation by developing non-timber forest-base economy. Liu Hesheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, also attended the inspection.

August 8-24, 2017 CSF was assigned the task of inspecting the work of improving science and technology to support targeted poverty alleviation in a way of third-party evaluation for the first time and the inspection was completed soundly. 5 inspector teams lead by 5 leaders of department level were sent to various places to inspect, and each team was equipped with management experts, business experts and finance experts. Inspector teams covered a journey of tens of thousands of miles, and visited 10 provinces, 20 poor counties and 40 poor villages. During the inspection, inspectors visited more than one thousand people from poor families as well as experts of poverty alleviation at primary level.

August 16-18, 2017 Reelection of Talents Work Committee of Forestry Talents Academic Symposium was held in Guiyang, with more than 260 attendees. During the reelection, the 3rd committee was elected, with Zeng Xiangwei elected as its Chairman, Wang Yangdong as its Vice Chairman and Wang Jun as its Secretary General.

August 29, 2017 Award ceremony for “Across the Jungle, Revealing Science Popularization” on line selection jointly sponsored by CSF and Chinese Science and Technology Press, was held in Beijing. 48 students attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, 7 article works with pictures and 7 video works were selected from 48 works with over 40,000 votes, were granted Most Popular Science Popularization Articles and Most Popular Science Popularization Videos respectively. Li Dongsheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech.

September 6, 2017 On the spot meeting for National Improving Science and Technology to Support Targeted Poverty Alleviation was jointly held by CAST, Ministry of Agriculture, and The State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province. At the meeting, Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, delivered a speech to introduce the CSF work of improving science and technology to support targeted poverty alleviation.

September 8-11, 2017 High-level Forest Tree Breeding Technology Development Academic Symposium and the 10th National Poplar Academic Symposium, jointly sponsored by CSF and State Key Laboratory Of Tree Genetics and Breeding, was held in Baoding, Hebei Province, with more than 240 attendees.

September 14-15, 2017 CSF held National Eucalyptus Development and Academic Symposium in Liuzhou, Guangxi Province. Over 270 representatives from Australia, Laos, and 12 provinces and regions of China attended the symposium.

September 16-17, 2017 CSF held Cornus Walteri Development Symposium in Taian City, Shandong Province.

September 18-24, 2017 Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, lead a delegation to Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany to attend the 125th Anniversary Conference of International Union of Forestry Research Organization. During the meeting, the delegation accompanied Zhao Shucong, President of CSF, to meet Michael Wingfield, President of International Union of Forestry Research Organization (IUFRO), Alexander Buck, Executive Director of IUFRO, Michael Kleine, Deputy Executive Director of IUFRO, and Walter Liese, former Secretary General of IUFRO.

September 23-28, 2017 CSF and China Forestry Society, Taiwan jointly held Cross-Strait Forestry Forum in Chongqing, with the theme of “Forest Management and Development”. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Li Dongsheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, presided over the meeting.

September 25-27, 2017 During 2017 China Forest Tour Festival, 10 towns with characteristic forest culture including Jigu Town, Jing County, Anhui Province were organized to hold exhibition of town with forest culture.

September 26-28, 2017 The 2017 China Forestry Youth Scientist Forum and the 5th Ningbo Forestry Forum, sponsored by CSF and Ningbo Talent Office, was held in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. The forum, themed “Ecological Remediation and Ecological Safety”, put forward practical methods of forest ecosystem construction that fit Ningbo through construction of coastal protection forest system, layout of forest cities. At the meeting, CSF signed a contract for “Jointly Build China Forestry E-commerce Platform for Local Experts" with Ningbo Forestry Bureau, and granted “China Forestry Youth Scientists Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base”.

September 28, 2017 Proposals on Boosting China Forest Seed Development, the 16th issue of Recommendations from Forestry Experts, received approval from from Zhang Jianlong, Director General of the State Forestry Administration.

October 12-15, 2017 Commissioned by CAST, CSF sent experts to Dongting Lake in Yueyang to made an inspection of protection and remediation of ecological environment and green development work, and put forward professional recommendations.

October 14-16, 2017 CSF sent staff to attend the 2nd Trilateral Meeting among The People’s Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea of International Union for Conservation of Nature, and introduced the project of Natural Oak Protection, Management, and Development.

October 15-17, 2017 The 319th Young Scientist Forum, sponsored by CAST and organized by CSF and Central South University of Forestry and Technology, was held in Changsha. Themed “Basic Research Drives Innovation of Biomass Efficient Utilization”, the forum was attended by over 90 young experts and scholars from nearly 20 units.

October 18-19, 2017 Chinese Society of Garden Founding Ceremony and Garden Academic Symposium was held in Chengdu Campus of Sichuan Agricultural University. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, attended the meeting. At the meeting, Li Xiong, Vice President of Beijing Forestry University, was elected as the Chairman of the first Committee of Chinese Society of Garden, and Professor Chen Qibin of Sichuan Agricultural University was elected as Secretary General of the first Committee.

October 25, 2017 CSF organized experts to hold experts review conference for Key Laboratory of the State Forestry Administration, and reviewed 57 newly declared laboratories and 34 previous laboratories. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

October 26, 2017 The project of Providing Targeted Service for Forestry Scientific and Technical Workers at Primary Level, lead by Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, was awarded Excellence and ranked fourth in the list of “Excellence”.

October 30-31, 2017 A symposium for CSF Reform and Development of Organization Construction was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The purpose of the meeting was to improve reform and development of CSF organization construction, to enhance branch management and service, and to improve membership development and membership service.

October 30-31, 2017 The 3rd China Precious Trees Academic Symposium, jointly sponsored by CSF and The Forest Department of Hunan Province, was held in Changsha, Hunan. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Over 200 scientific and technical personnel attended the meeting.

November 3, 2017 Scientific-and-Technical Community Reform and Development Theory Symposium, sponsored by CAST and organized by CSF, was held at China Hall of Science and Technology. Themed “Exploring the Reform and Development of Scientific-and-Technical Community with Chinese Characteristics”, the meeting was attended by over 200 people. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, delivered a keynote report on “Position and Function of Scientific-and-Technical Community”at invitation.

November 9-10, 2017 CSF held 2017 first International Ginkgo Summit in Pizhou, Jiangsu Province. Zhao Shucong, President of CSF, and Academician Cao Fuliang attended the meeting. Top experts in ginkgo research field from home and abroad, including Raymond Cooper, Visiting Professor of University of London, Granville, Senior Consultant of Schwab Group, made reports at the meeting. Over 350 people attended the meeting.

November 15-17, 2017 The Fifth China Ginkgo Festival with 300 attendees, sponsored by CSF, was held in Anlu, Hubei. During the festival, the result of “Seeking Most Beautiful Ginkgo Village in China” was announced and 11 ginkgo villages won the title of Most Beautiful Ginkgo Village in China, China Ginkgo Science Popularization Garden Ground Breaking Ceremony was launched, and the 23th China Ginkgo Academic Symposium was held.

November 15- December 20, 2017 CSF organized three groups of 12 experts and sent them to 19 provinces and regions, including Beijing, to inspect Key Laboratory of the State Forestry Administration on the spot. A total of 28 old and new laboratories was divided into three areas and assigned to the three groups respectively. The first group was in charge of 11 laboratories of 7 provinces and regions including Beijing City, Heilongjiang Province, Jilin Province, Liaoning Province, Shaanxi Province, Inner Mongolia, and Ningxia; The second Group was in charge of 8 laboratories of 6 provinces including Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Jiangxi Province, Hunan Province, Guangdong Province, and Anhui Province; The third group was in charge of 9 laboratories of 6 provinces and regions including Sichuan Province, Yunnan Province, Guizhou Province, Qinghai Province, Tibet, and Xinjiang.

November 20-22, 2017 The Sixth Conference of Chinese Society of Bamboo of CSF & the 13th China Bamboo Academic Conference, sponsored by CSF and Forest Department of Zhejiang Province, was held in Anji County, Zhejiang Province. The number of attendees was over 450. Zhao Shucong, Central Committee Member of the 18th of the Central Committee, Vice Director of National Afforestation Committee and President of CSF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, also attended the meeting.

November 21, 2017 Chinese Society of Saline Founding Ceremony and first Saline Academic Symposium was held in Tianjin. Zhao Shucong, Chairman of CSF, Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, and Liu Hesheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, attended the opening ceremony and unveiled the branch.

November 22, 2017 Reviewing meeting for 2017-2019  Applicants of Young Talent Supporting Project was held in Beijing. Liu Hesheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. 9 experts from relative units of Chinese Academy of Forestry also attended the meeting. At the meeting, two applicants were selected.

November 24-25, 2017 CSF held Modern Artificial Forest Enterprises Innovation and Development Forum, themed “Update Artificial Forest Enterprises by Concept and Model Innovation”. Leaders including Zhao Shucong, President of CSF, and Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, attended the forum. Also joining the forum were principals from artificial forest enterprises, as well as experts and scholars from relative areas, bringing the number of attendees to 110.

November 26-28, 2017 The 2nd National Fir Academic Symposium, sponsored by CSF and organized by Fir Professional Committee of CSF with Central South University of Forestry and Technology, was held in Changsha, Hunan. Themed “Accurate Quality Improvement of Artificial Fir, the meeting was attended by over 180 people.

December 1, 2017 The name list of the 14th China Forestry Youth Science and Technology Awards was published, and 20 comrades including Ma Guoming were awarded “Forestry Youth Science and Technology Award”.

December 1-2, 2017 Forest Management Academic Symposium and International Experiences and Technology Training Session, both sponsored by CSF and The State Forestry Administration of the People's Republic of China, was held in Kunming, with over 200 attendees. Themed “Forest Ecosystem Management and Administration”, the meeting consisted of two parts of indoor seminar training and filed teaching in forestry farm. Li Dongsheng, Vice Secretary General of CSF, attended and addressed the meeting.

December 3-9, 2017 A delegation of 2017 Cross-Strait Forestry Communication Project of Primary Level went to Taiwan to inspect.

December 4, 2017 2016-2017 inspection project of the delegate of the Ninth Committee of CAST (Chen Xinliang), “Providing Targeted Service for Forestry Scientific and Technical workers at Primary Level”, undertaken by CSF, was evaluated as “Excellence” from 61 inspection reports.

December 5, 2017 2017 High-level Forum on Modern Forestry Development, organized by CSF, was held in Beijing. Themed “New Opportunity, New Mission and New Course of Forestry Development in New Time”, the forum was attended by over 200 people. Zhang Jianlong, Secretary of Party Leadership Group and Director General of the State Forestry Administration, Xie Zhenhua, Deputy Director of Committee of Population, Resource, and Environment of the National Committee of the CPPCC and the Special Representative of China Climate Change Affairs, Zhao Shucong, Vice Director of National Afforestation Committee, and President of CSF, Peng Youdong, Member of Party Leadership Group, and Vice Director of The State Forestry Administration, and Tan Guangming, Member of Party Leadership Group attended the meeting. Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, presided over the opening ceremony of the meeting.

December 15, 2017 Forestry Science Popularization Day activity, and the 34th Youth Forestry Science Camp and Achievement Sharing activity, both sponsored by CSF, were awarded the title of “Excellent Activity of 2017 National Science Day”.

December 19, 2017 CSF held expert review meeting for “Seeking the Most Beautiful King Tree” activity, and elected 85 tress as the most beautiful king tree.

December 20, 2017 Institutional Cost of Artificial Forest Management, the 18th session of issue of Recommendations from Forestry Experts, received approval from from Zhang Jianlong, Director General of the State Forestry Administration.

December 20, 2017 CSF formed expert review committee with Chen Xinliang, Secretary General of CSF, as its Director, held review meeting for 2017 Town with Forest Culture, and 20 towns were elected.

December 22-24, 2017 CSF held Disciplinary Development Report Conference in Beijing, and modified 2016-2017 Forestry Disciplinary Development Report. Four chief scientists who wrote the report including Academician Zhang Shougong, Professor Yang Chuanping, Researcher Sheng Weitong, Researcher Chen Xinliang attended the meeting.

December, 2017 CSF was awarded “Excellent Unit of 2017 National Society Science Popularization” for seven successive years.
