Since 2010, China's nature education has shown a blowout development trend. A large number of institutions focusing on nature education have emerged spontaneously in various regions, and various types and forms of nature education have been carried out. In order to plan as a whole, coordinate and serve the nature education in various regions, make concerted efforts, and ensure the healthy and orderly development of the nature education industry, 305 units, such as the Chinese Society of Forestry, the Asia-Pacific Forest Network Management Center of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and other subordinate units, universities, primary and secondary schools, scientific research institutes, various protected areas, nature education institutions, non-governmental organizations, foundations and enterprises, proposed to establish the National Head School of Nature Education relying in Chinese Society of Forestry in April 2019. The National Head School of Nature Education is the first cross-border alliance with nature education as the content and with the most extensive scope in China. It has president, vice president, standing committee members, committee members, as well as a number of committees and secretariats. Zhao Shucong, former Chief of the State Forestry Administration and President of the Chinese Society of Forestry, is the president of the Head School.

With the purpose of serving the development of nature education and promoting the harmony between man and nature, taking overall planning, coordination and service as the orientation, taking the industry empowerment as the task, adhering to the working concept of "openness, voluntariness, cooperation, sharing, inclusiveness, pluralism and service", the National Head School of Nature Education gathers wisdom, builds consensus, plans as a whole, coordinates and serves nature education in various regions, actively creates the practice platform for nature education, cultivates social forces, and strives to promote the establishment of industry norms and standards, and professional personnel training system, the exploration and promotion of industry cooperation mechanism and model, and even the promotion of specialized legislation, so as to eventually realize the rational development of nature education industry and promote the healthy, orderly and normalized development of nature education in the new era.

National Head School of Nature Education takes "learning knowledge of the world, and embracing the nature" as the school motto. Since its establishment, it has given full play to the professional advantages and practical experience of the Chinese Society of Forestry in the field of natural resource protection and management, close contact and cooperative relationship with various nature protected area systems, as well as the experience and resource advantages of cooperation and communication with various social institutions as a professional society, and has been committed to activating the social public welfare and educational functions of various nature protected areas and promoting cross-border cooperation, cultivated more social forces that pay attention to and participate in nature conservation through nature education, provided a broad practice platform for the development of nature education, and built a bridge for communication and cooperation between nature education institutions and various nature protected areas. The First China Nature Education Congress, organized and held in November 2019, provides professional theoretical and technical support for practitioners and personnel, explores a reasonable and standardized path for social participation in nature education, becomes the highest level exchange and practice platform for China's nature education industry, and effectively promotes the development of China's nature education industry. Up to now, 180 nature education schools (bases) have been approved by the National Head School of Nature Education.
